A weighted average gives each value an influence determined by its weight. Values with larger weights affect the result more.
Formula
Weighted average = Σ(value × weight) ÷ Σ(weights)
Example
Values 80 and 90 with weights 1 and 2 produce (80 × 1 + 90 × 2) ÷ 3 = 86.67.
Frequently asked questions
Do weights need to total 100?
No. Any positive scale works because the weighted sum is divided by the total weight.
